Pay Per Click Advertising is not a business strategy that anyone can just jump into and start making money. It is no different then any other form of marketing. It takes planning, a budget, research and lots of trial and error. Here are four important principals to keep in mind when embarking on any PPC strategy.
Research:
I remember when I started my first PPC campaign. I simply researched a few words, put up some ads and crossed my fingers. The words I used were from a small batch of research that in my mind were going to be the biggest money makers.
Boy was I wrong!
If PPC marketing was really that easy, I think it would be safe to say that everyone would be successful. The fact of the matter is that no one ever knows for certain what keywords are going to be profitable. There are no tools that can predict the future and making assumptions are like throwing money in the trash.
You need to start as wide and deep as possible. What you think are going to be killer words, could infact be words that no one is using. The words that you think that no one uses, may in fact be the ones that people who spend money most frequently use.
The bottom line is? research as many words as you can? and plan to use them all when getting started.
Budget:
I laugh when I hear sales letters that say you can make money in PPC with only a small budget. Yes, it is possible but it is about as rare as a lottery ticket winner. There are very few markets out there that are instant winners in the PPC game. It takes time and money to test out all the potential words and narrow down to the winners. If you are serious about this game, plan starting out with a serious budget of at least $2000.
Commitment:
Have you ever heard or said this?
?I tried PPC but it did not work for me?
I know I said that a few years ago and the reason was because it was true? but not totally. You see PPC works but it was not that it did not work for me but it was that the lame system I was using was not a good one. So what did I do? I gave up after a couple hundred dollars.
If you want to be profitable in PPC, you need to be committed. Create yourself a goal and stick with it. You are going to almost certainly spend more then you earn at first but as you start to narrow down the keywords and optimize the ads you will start to earn more. It just takes time and a commitment from you.
