Being a Better You Today

by Elliott Roberts

If happiness is something that is supposed to be created from within a person, why then is it so difficult to be happy with ourselves? Often, the troubles with self happiness are the lower levels of self esteem that are housed within the mind. Our self concept is tainted and distorted to the point that we consistently assess ourselves and find faults in everything we do. Over a length of time, that tainted image becomes a reality to us.

At other times discontentment can be a result of fear of failure or even fear of success. People tend to resist change for fear of the unknown, even if they are unhappy in their current condition. Often times a person will stay in a dead-end job or relationship simply because it is familiar rather than venture into the unknown. While the concept may seem ridiculous when you read it on paper, it is the mentality that many humans share. However, those who hold on to this thought rarely find happiness. Their own thought process becomes crippling and limits their potential in life.

These self-doubts, self-esteem issues and fears of failure may be the simple three road blocks between your happiness and you. Look closely at your thoughts and beliefs, find out what you need to do to change the path of your life and be honest with yourself about the true causes of your unhappiness. A healthy self image may just be born out of this knowledge.

Improving one self needs to incorporate a mental, physical and emotionally sound life. Asking yourself some of the hardest question can often open up those mental blocks between you and happiness. What areas of your life make you the most unhappy? What areas in life do you wish were different? What areas in your life need the greatest change to meet your definition of success? Is that definition one that can be attained in reality?

The physical side of improvement can often be the least difficult of the three. Increasing your exercise levels and toning the body, even weight loss, will have such an effect that self esteem and thus happiness will instantly rise. A great looking body is at the heart of all self-esteem and without that feeling of healthiness and pride in your body, happiness will not follow.

Working on the emotional side of life is a bit harder than the physical changes. Our lives have a tendency to leave scars on our psyche and those scars are the reason Psychiatrists and Psychologists have the jobs they do today. Practicing calming techniques and methods can improve the emotional hold we have on our lives and thus improve our chances of happiness.

Mental change works hand in hand with emotional and requires time spent on lowering levels of stress and improving how we judge ourselves and our successes. Our minds how great strength in our lives and without a balanced mental state, the happiness we desire is something that will tantalize us constantly.

Life without balance and self-esteem will be life without happiness. The happiness we want and desire is rooted in our need to be better that we are right now and better than everyone else around us. Without a doubt, once we refocus our lives on the things that matter the most, our bodies, our hearts and our minds, the rest will fall into place an happiness will be achieved.
